"Act only according to that maxim whereby you can at the same time will that it should become a universal law." Immanuel Kant, Groundwork for the Metaphysics of Morals
This categorical imperative should be valid for companies and citizens in the climate- and energy policy concerning their individual actions and their political demands to legislature. Only in this way the problem of climate change as the biggest market failure in history, as formulated by Nicholas Stern, can be solved. Following this line it does make sense to use marked based instruments as the best way to fulfill the polluter pays principle and to combine economy and ecology.
